A grayscale installation with many variations on circles and a half sphere in the center.Rooted in psychology and philosophy.

Roughly 6' x 6' - 2021

The title of the work stems from Philosopher Jonathan Lear’s book Open Minded: Working out the Logic of the Soul p.139 (1998). The installation is a representation of psychological processes, with each part of the installation having its role. The black mirrors placed at four points are to represent the external reality surrounding the ego as well as absorbing information. The dark gray circles which fill the space between each mirror is to transfer and process information. The light gray arches are the egos protector allowing in information and experiences as they see fit. The half sphere in the middle of the composition represents the ego itself as it is created and built upon by the reality surrounding it. The half sphere has seams and textures that I didn't shy away from as I feel the ego is not something one is born with, but rather built and created.
