A Harsh Reality is a sculptural installation that states “BEING LOVED IS A PRIVILEGE” and is made from the typically celebratory balloon letters. Due to its phrasing, color, and positioning the celebration has been stripped entirely, only leaving the form of balloons themselves. The phrasing stems from a line of thinking on unconditional love, which is a type of love that (inadvertently?) takes the stance that everyone is deserving of love, without exception. A sentiment I heavily disagree with, the idea that love is always there no matter what within a relationship leads to a neglectful stance on love.
