An Internet Liaison. A light box surrounded in black with text that states "From 6:37:20 to 6:38:54 i love you"

An Internet Liaison (March 2020 - March 2021)

MDF, Acrylic, LED Lights - 48" x 24" x 4” - 2022

An Internet Liaison (March 2020 - March 2021) illuminates disingenuous internet based interactions with one individual through a prolonged period. The light filled text in the piece quantifies love from this situation through small increments that are representative of the time it takes to send/receive text messages. The intention of the lowercase “i” is to do two things. One of which is to bring forward the location of a phone and casual text messages. The other in tandem with the repetition is representative of the diminished importance of the phrase through this interaction. The dimensionality of the acrylic text is to bring that digital location into our physical space. Surrounding the digital is often a sentiment that it is not consequential, when truthfully it is influential and affects the individuals partaking in those digital interactions greatly. The matte black aesthetic of the work outside of the text is to provide a monument-like reference to fleeting sentiments that are now in a permanent monolith.

The liaison that this piece was inspired by, is one of the events in my recent life that began this larger interrogation of love as I found myself in actions that were not representative of who I am.
