An instillation in Bieker Woods in Munster, Indiana consisting entirely of natural materials including tree branches and plants. Trees. Nature. Bieker Woods: Colors, Forms, Ephemera

Natural Materials Found at the Site - 2021

A site-specific collaboration with the space itself. For this installation, I was very aware of the space I was taking up within this forest, and due to that, I tried to camouflage myself while I was creating the installation. I did this by wearing all brown and taking no technology into the forest, with the exception of the very end of the process for documentation. With the materials for the installation, I traversed the forest several times finding pieces of branches and plants that were already laid on the ground. One rule I had for myself was that I will not be pulling branches or pulling out plants. The logs in the piece were presumably man-cut as there was a fallen tree nearby to them that was clearly missing sections. Within the moment of creating the work, I was responding and communicating with the forest itself rather than imposing a concept onto it. The sounds, scents, and textures of the wet forest lent themselves beautifully and generously to inspiration.

After its creation, the installation was left to the forest as what the forest will do, it will do.
