An art installation of two magenta pyramids and six cyan orbs arranged in a mirror like fashion.

A Balanced Juxtaposition of the Self

Pyramids: 4’ tall - Orbs: 12" Diameter - 2021

A Balanced Juxtaposition of the Self is an installation consisting of two three-sided pyramids and six orbs. One pyramid sits on the floor while the other hangs directly above it in a mirror-like way. The cyan orbs are positioned equally at each of the corresponding pyramids corners, three on the floor and three hanging. The geometric pyramids are made of MDF with magenta spray paint and the orbs are made of rubber and cyan spray paint. This installation is a representation of the balance that is needed and the qualities for the self to function. I have defined the self as an expression of the singularity of the point of view of the embodied person in perception. The pyramids and the space between their points create a necessary tension within the self. The tension creates a harmonious balance, never allowing one to be dominant. The orbs are representative of the processes and qualities of the self that are necessary for its functioning. Without the juxtaposing forms and colors the self is left unchecked and unbalanced resulting in chaos.
